Ada

Ada has spent the past several years as a teacher, trainer, and counsellor  at various educational institutions and private companies across shanghai. Now a program manager at New Pathway, Ada achieves her greatest sense of fulfillment by bringing together remarkable teachers to see if they can become something greater. In 2017 alone, Ada has helped at least 30 students to achieve a 100+ TOEFL and 10 students to get 110+ on the exam. After work, Ada enjoys jogging (or walking or bike riding), which gives her time to sort through her thoughts while sweating out the stress. 


Alex

Following a brief stint at a Manhattan law firm, Alex has spent the past six years pursuing his passion for education as a test prep instructor, first in his hometown of New York City, followed by a one-year sojourn in South Korea, and finally here in Shanghai. Because her previous work experience provided her with opportunities to communicate with people from different age groups and backgrounds, she became interested in educational psychology, and became a practitioner of the MBTI teaching methodology. As a TOEFL teacher, she has helped many students achieve their test prep goals. Outside of the classroom, Ivey is an enthusiastic volunteer worker, teaching English in remote areas, visiting seniors in nursing houses and helping out in libraries.

Bart

After graduating from college, Bart worked as a professional copywriter and part time tutor before moving to Shanghai three years ago to pursue test prep full time. He prefers a comprehensive, hands-on approach to teaching, combined with an intense appreciation for reading, grammar and the English language. This approach regularly sees hundreds of points of improvement by his students over a short period time. When he is not teaching, Bart enjoys traveling around southeast Asia, scuba diving and sampling the local cuisine.


Jacob

Jessica

After a chance opportunity to tutor other students during her college years, Jessica decided to pursue education full time. After graduating early with a perfect GPA from the University of Buffalo, Jessica taught at a Buffalo community college, and found herself inspired by the passion of the local students. She then went on to run an ESL program at an American counselling company. Returning home to Shanghai with this professional experience, Jessica continued her teaching career in New Pathway’s TOEFL program. As one of the most beloved and popular teachers at New Pathway, Jessica has helped many students to achieve academic excellence. This past year, more than 20 of her students scored above 110 on the TOEFL. Aside from teaching, Jessica is also a fashion blogger, inspiring confidence in women of all ages.

Ellen

Ellen Chai attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she majored in an interdisciplinary program combining philosophy, neuroscience, and psychology. During her time in college, she worked in a cognitive science laboratory, researching key components of cognitive control and administering computer-based memory tasks, along with a brief stint in a biology laboratory where she meticulously scanned mouse leg bones for inflammatory bone loss. Upon arriving in Shanghai, Ellen has taught SAT, ACT, and AP Psychology with her characteristically calm and methodical teaching style. In her spare time, she enjoys collecting books that eventually collect dust and fantasizing about ideas for biotope aquariums.


Lisa Liu

Lisa graduated from Tongji University with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry, and has been teaching ever since. After graduating fourth in his high school class, Matt attended top 100 university Texas A&M, College Station. It was there that he studied business administration and graduated with honors. After graduating, he went on to work for an oil company, Baker Hughes, before rediscovering his passion for education. Matt spent four years teaching English in Europe before coming to China, and bringing his passion for debate and speaking with him.  He has been with New Pathway for the entirety of his time in China, fostering a learning environment based on experience, encouragement, and fun.

Libby

After teaching English in college for four years and gaining a MA in Language Testing, Libby started teaching SAT and TOEFL at prestigious IB and AP schools in 2010 and gradually specialized in test-preparation for American colleges and high schools. For the past eight years, Libby has helped numerous students to achieve SAT writing 700+ and TOEFL speaking 28+. Teenage students enjoy Libby’s informative and illuminating lectures while parents are enormously impressed by her meticulous class feedback. Outside the classroom, Libby is the mother of a naughty 3-year-old boy, nurturing his interest on gymnastics and Dr. Seuss’ books.


Justin

A native of Dallas Texas, Justin Irizarry continues the proud American tradition of great southern writers. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in English, Justin went on to pursue a Masters in literature before finally receiving his MFA from the prestigious UNLV writing program. Justin has had over 50 of his poems and short stories published in more than 35 academic journals, including the Columbia Literary Journal, American Poetry Review, and the Harvard Literary Review. He was also the recipient of the esteemed Pushcart award for his poem, “Due Partly to Inertia,” and was named one of 2013’s “Best New Poets.” When he is not working on his own fiction or educating the next generation of young writers, Justin enjoys pursuing his twin interests of making and writing music, and app development.


Walley Wang

After graduating from the prestigious Fudan University with a major in international economics and trade, Walley became one of the very first AP Economics teachers in the city of Shanghai, working at a key senior high school. Walley uses his signature high-impact style, interspersed with moments of humor and genuine levity, to help his students achieve elite results in AP and IB economics, as well as the NEC competition. The vast majority of Walley’s hundreds of students have received a perfect score on the AP Economics exam, as well as a full IB score of 7. After work, Walley enjoys, reading, singing, gaming and going to bed by 9:30.


Samantha Ericson

After graduating with a Master’s degree in TESOL from Central Washington University, Sammy came to China with a passion for teaching English. Sammy has lived and worked in China for 5 years and in that time, she has developed her teaching skills and philosophy. Sammy believes that a classroom environment that promotes creative and critical thinking is the most effective for students. Utilizing a communicative teaching method in the classroom, Sammy strives to encourage students and help them reach their English goals. This impressive academic background led to her interest in language acquisition generally and education specifically. She also won first place in National Teaching Skills Competition for the English majors of higher normal schools. Adding to her already formidable experience, Sabrina has worked in New York in the field of intercultural communication and taught Intensive English in an International School, all while continuing to teach TOEFL. Since joining New Pathway, Sabrina has not only helped many students achieve their dream scores, but also encouraged them to build confidence in themselves no matter their level. Outside of the classroom, Sabrina pursues her passion for meditative yoga.

Kirk

Kirk Cowgill has worked in various halls of government in the United States, including serving in the Arnold Schwarzenegger administration and the California Senate. He has also served on political campaigns, working with several members of Congress, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other members of both major parties. In China, Kirk has an extensive roster of students he has helped to study and work abroad, teaching students everything from SAT/ACT to TOEFL/IELTS, and even international school interview preparation. Outside of work, Kirk is an avid writer, crafting speeches for politicians and major CEOs -- as well as writing children's novels -- in his free time.


Yunyun Zhang

Yunyun graduated from Fudan Normal University with a Master’s degree in science, and has been teaching mathematics ever since. With more than 8 years of teaching experience and a certification in AP Calculus from the College Board, Yunyun always gives her students the best, most professional help available. Yunyun specializes in explaining complex concepts in a manner that is both engaging and easy to understand, helping more than 120 students receive perfect AP Calculus scores, and helping more than 30 to receive perfect scores on the SAT II Math subject test.
