    【新SAT】新SAT和老SAT的区别

    来源:   发布日期:2016-07-26

    2016年3月,美国大学委员将会对SAT做出一系列的大变革。SAT考试仍将扮演着评估高中生是否做好大学学习准备的标准化考试的角色,但其考试内容、时间、计分以及理念指导都将有巨大的改变。今天我们主要讨论下rSAT(Redesigned SAT,新SAT)同旧SAT主要有哪些不同吧!再根据这些不同,找出重点,准备新SAT。

    词汇vs. 基于篇章的阅读

    rSAT对词汇的侧重将远小于旧SAT,学生不必记住成百上千的词汇来完成词汇理解题。在rSAT中,对词汇单独地考察将内嵌在文章中,题型将趋于两类:

    一个是观点表达题(Expression of Ideas),这类题侧重考查学生对文本话题的展开、逻辑以及修辞语言运用的理解;

    另一类是标准英文文法题(Standard English Conventions),侧重对英语语法的考察。

    图表

    和ACT科学测试一样,rSAT阅读以及写作(Reading and Writing)测试也将包含各类数据图表。这和旧版SAT不同,旧版SAT阅读和写作测试中没有任何图表。

    数学三角及其它

    rSAT数学将包含诸如三角这样的初级微积分知识,对于觉得数学可以考到780+的中国学生来说,数学拿高分将不再那么轻松。另外,rSAT中,部分数学测试限制了计算器的使用。

    作文

    rSAT作文同其它部分一样,也做了彻底的改变。旧版SAT只是要求学生根据给出的话题和观点来写一篇议论文。不同的是,rSAT中的作文是可选可不选的,要求学生根据一个有争议性的观点撰写一篇分析类的作文。学生需要阅读一篇具有说服力的文章,进行批判性地评估,在作文中论述作者是如何使用特定的语言来支持和深化论点的。虽然College Board并没有明确要求作文字数,我们建议至少要在500字以上。

    计分

    不同于旧版SAT,rSAT的总分为1600分,阅读和写作测试占800分,数学测试占800分。而在旧版SAT中,阅读测试、写作测试以及数学测试各占800分。另外,rSAT中的多项选择改为四项多选,答错也不会扣分。

    总结

    rSAT有很多改变,完全不同于旧SAT,不容小觑。2017届的学生应该认真考虑参加相对没有变化的ACT考试,这样就可以避免参加改变如此彻底的rSAT考试了。

By March of 2016, The College Board will have implemented a wide range of significant changes to the SAT. Although the SAT will retain its primary purpose as a standardized assessment of the readiness of secondary school students for university-level study, the content, timing, scoring, and underlying philosophy of the test will change dramatically. Let’s take a few moments to discuss some of the main ways in which the new Redesigned SAT (rSAT) will differ from the old SAT.

    Vocabulary vs. Passage-Based Reading

The rSAT will place far less emphasis on vocabulary; no longer will students be expected to memorize hundreds, if not thousands of words for the sake of doing well on the word-in-context questions. Instead, the rSAT will feature passages in which questions are embedded; these questions will focus on two types of questions, Expressions of Ideas questions, which focus on the way the text develops a topic, logic, and rhetorical use of language, and Standard English Conventions questions, which focus on English grammar.

    Charts, Graphs, and Tables

Like the ACT Science Test, the rSAT Reading and Writing Tests will both feature charts, graphs, and tables that present information visually. This is a departure from the old SAT which did not feature any charts, graphs, or tables on the Reading and Writing Tests.

    Trigonometry and other Math Changes

The rSAT Math Test will feature pre-calculus topics such as trigonometry, making it no longer an easy 780+ for Chinese students. Additionally, the rSAT will limit the use of calculators on part of the Math Test.

    Essay

Like the other sections of the SAT, the essay has been massively overhauled. Unlike with the old SAT, where students simply had to write an argumentative essay to support their viewpoint on a topic, the optional rSAT essay requires students to compose a piece of analytical writing explaining an argumentative text. Students must read and critically evaluate a persuasive text that advances an argument before writing an essay that explains the way the author of the text makes specific language choices to advance the text’s argumentative viewpoint.

    Scoring

Unlike the old SAT, the rSAT will be scored out of 1600 total points, with 800 points allocated for the Reading and Writing Tests, and 800 points allocated for the Math Test. This is unlike the old SAT, where 800 points were allocated for the Reading Test, 800 points for the Writing Test, and 800 points for the Math Test. Additionally, the multiple-choice sections now feature four answer choices with no penalty for wrong answers.

    Conclusion

Due to the multitude of changes made, the rSAT is an entirely different test from the old SAT, and should not be underestimated. Students in the class of 2017 should seriously consider taking the relatively-unchanged ACT so as to avoid taking the radically-changed rSAT.
